Project Scope

Partum was engaged for the engineering and design to convert the supply to an existing dewatering bore from a diesel generator to an overhead powerline at the FMG Solomon mine.

The project design scope included:

  • Modification of an existing HV intermediate pole to a cable take off.
  • 33kV underground cable to a skid-mounted step-down transformer.
  • LV cable to a skid mounted VSD skid with a step-up transformer.
  • 3.8kV cable to a 60Hz bore pump.

Challenges Overcome

  • Non-standard intermediate tall structure as the point of connection.
  • Underground of the 33kV cables below a re-classified haul road.
  • Additional earthworks required to raise the site due to flood level concerns.
  • Changes in the equipment configuration from one to multiple skids.
  • 800A rated manually operated mechanically interlocked changeover mechanism for mains and emergency generator.
  • VSD control and unusual step up transformer for the supply to the HV bore pump.

Solution

  • PLS CADD modelling of the existing line and required modifications.
  • Complete preparation of the power and earthing system modelling as part of the HV submission deliverable.
  • Modelling of the VSD to validate fault contribution on the HV bore pump.
  • Arc flash analysis and creation of labels.
