Project Scope

Partum was engaged as part of the Western Turner Syncline Phase 2 expansions project to undertake the design
of the 33kV overhead distribution network comprising of:

  • Ore transfer station and Primary Crusher
  • Non-process facilities including ANFO, Heavy vehicle refuelling and maintenance
  • Telstra radio base station and Turkeys nest

The project design scope consisted of over 17km of phosphorus and cherry phase conductor along with a 60
core single mode OPGW conductor throughout the various areas of supply.

Challenges Overcome

  • Tie in interface with the existing infrastructure.
  • Evolving mine plan.
  • Interfacing with civil earthworks design team.
  • Non-optimal and pre-determined powerline corridor.
  • Significant number of underground and aboveground services.
  • Tight design deadlines that were client driven.

Solution

  • Frequent communication including weekly design meetings, workshops and formal reviews.
  • Interpretation and implementation of client’s requirements including the preparation of unique client requested powerline structures reclosers and cable take-off points
  • Redesign of existing point of connection to accommodate powerline extension.
  • Earthing system modelling and design.
